OK, OK, I admit the headline is a bit tasteless. But if anybody deserves a round of applause, it's this guy. I had the pleasure of seeing him pitch once, and even though he got pounded, it was still pretty neat to see him work. And while he didn't generate Hall of Fame stats, he did have a 10 year career and even pitched a no-hitter once. And as Len Hochberg explains, Abbott is an all-around athlete:
As hard as it is to imagine Abbott playing baseball with one hand, how about other sports? In high school, he quarterbacked his team to the Michigan state championship game. "To this day, he's one of the best athletes I've ever been around," says Langston, now one of his closest friends. "We play golf together. Numerous times he's kicked my tail."
