Nice hyperbole in your title. Maybe Republicans can remember that they are supposed to be the party that lets States handle matters like this.

I only wish it were hyperbole, Stephen.

It is an interesting twist on the scenario that republicans usually site, though, isn't it? I always find the contradictions interesting. I ask this; if the issue wasn't that she's going to starve to death,... if a Kervorkian type of thing were to be allowed instead, would it change the issue any in the minds of those who are using that as their main gripe? Course, the other side of me, the cynical side, wonders if this would even be a story if she were a minority. Republicans don't seem to care as much then.

Being on Michael Schiavo's side isn't a plus with the voters, and most Democrats know this. But it only takes a few renegades to hold things up. Why would the party let them do that, when there's no upside?

There are two main reasons this has become a hot issue: one is that Terri is not on life support. If they can kill her, then why not your Grandma, or your handicapped kid, or Stephen Hawking? The second is Michael Schiavo, getting many dollars and then turning around and using that money to hire a lawyer to get his wife killed legally. And all the time, living with a new woman and having 2 children by her.

As for the minority angle, I can't think of any African American who is as devious as Michael Schiavo, so I guess that will have to remain in the realm of speculation.
