When journeyman actor Hardy Rawls (The Adventures of Pete & Pete) was named as the third Maytag Repairman, he must have thought he had finally arrived at the corner of Primrose Lane and Easy Street. After all, the first Maytag Repairman, Jesse White, held the position for 21 years. Then Gordon Jump held it for 15 years. For an actor, Hardy Rawls was looking forward to the unusual future of a stable income and job security.
But it was not to be. The Maytag Corporation was bought out by Whirlpool, and old Hardy was out the door, replaced by Clay Jackson. Like I said, a tough break. But that's show biz, I guess.
