From The Fourth Checkraise:
Slate has an unusually airheaded article "Wage against the machine" that asks why Wal-Mart can't pay its workers as much as Costco, the socially conscious retailer that the whiterpeople prefer to shop at. Well, the answer should be blindingly obvious to anyone who has ever stepped inside both stores: Wal-Mart hires all those people that Costco, in its pursuit to hire only the most productive cream of the crop, would never even grant an interview. It would therefore be equally irrational to complain that the average Microsoft employee is better paid and perked than the average Costco employee. Tim Worstall has already answered this canard two years ago in his article "Wal-Mart and toddler economics", so I'll just direct my readers there. Of course, all activism against Wal-Mart ultimately boils down to the desperate left-liberal scream "Look at me, I have all these trendy and correct views, so surely I am not a prole!" Nowhere has this been pointed out as beautifully as this one Penn and Teller clip from their "Bullshit!" show. Knowing what is best for poor people is certainly one thing that white liberals always excel in; they really seem to believe that if only there was no Wal-Mart, then its employers and customers would turn into young Starbucks baristas and English majors.

Penn and Teller are blogging about this season and have included a bunch of deleted scenes and commentary on their site.
I especially enjoyed this guy channeling his inner John Travolta... from the newest episode "New Age Medicine". What won't people believe...
