I know we always just say "sometimes Y" but in reality, it's "sometimes W and Y.
Good examples are the words COW and COWARD and COUNT. When you say them, listen to the W sound in COWARD. You'll hear WARD. You won't hear the W sound in COW; it's the same sound in COUNT. Hence, double U.
