I saw driving home from work on Friday -- there was no way to miss it.
UPDATE JUNE 26, 2009: Mark has been hired. The story:
MILWAUKEE - His face was seen by thousands of cars every day. Now "Mark 4 Hire" has been hired. But it wasn't the billboard that got him the job.
"No, ultimately it was sheer networking," he said.
Mark Heuer rented the billboard after months of job hunting turned up nothing. He heard from tons of well wishers, and had some job interviews. The billboard created over 2,000 responses.
But months went by, and still no job. So Mark went back to basics.
He got off the social networking websites, and started socializing in person. Now he urging others to do the same.
"Talk to key decision makers directly, not through human resources or through the job boards like Career Builder, Monster Dot Com, or The Ladders, or how many other venues out there."
Mark's face-to-face networking landed him a director's job with "Home Instead." It is a service to keep aging seniors in their own home. As for the billboard, Mark says he has no regrets.
But when it comes to job hunting, he's learned nothing beats old school pounding of the pavement.
And a comment by Mark from his Twitter page:
Receive a lot of Multi Level Marketing opportunities - never have seen anyone sell anything / is MLM just building a downline?
But no matter. The important thing is: CONGRATULATIONS, MARK!
