What a great memory trigger!

My development years in Columbus, Georgia had RC Cola all over them. Royal Crown Cola's headquarters were there and the company was an important local presence. I was fortunate to get to meet Brad Ansley who was executive VP at the time, and become friends with his family. Also, one of our neighbors was with Pickett & Hatcher Educational Fund, established by the founders of RC Cola to loan money to college students at 1%interest (but not for those studying law, medicine or the ministry...for which they said there were already funds enough).

But the best story of all was that of Alex Mitchell, a local candy store owner who, because he had a diabetic daughter, became an expert on sugar substitutes way long before they were widely popular. Consequently when RC Cola developed Diet Rite Cola, the original pioneer in that market, Mr. Mitchell was among their consultants. He was an old man when I knew him in the early sixties but he had some good stories to tell.

Thanks for the memories!

Bryan

I had an RC over the 4th of July. Generally, I don't drink soda. But when RC is available, I make an exception.
